Teaching ESL in Costa Rica

There really is no better place to choose than Costa Rica when picking a country to get your TEFL certification. Costa Rica is the most stable county in the region with over 80 years of democracy without threat of war. Costa Rica is also one of two countries in the entire world that does not currently have an army.

Costa Rica’s natural resources are impressive; multiple active volcanoes, mountain range, pristine white sandy beaches and an impressive rainforests inhabited by monkeys, sloths and toucans. What’s best is that you can reach any of these within a couple of hours due to Costa Rica being such a small country.
But Costa Rica’s best resource is not its nature, but its people. Costa Ricans are known for their love of life as they have coined the phrase “pure life” when speaking to one another. All who come to Costa Rica leave knowing they have made friends here. Unlike most countries where foreigners are tolerated, here in Costa Rica they are welcomed! Salsa dancing, weekend trips to the beach, and late night drinks are some of the more popular social activities in Costa Rica.

So who better to welcome you during your journey than the peace-promoting, music-loving, welcoming people of Costa Rica?

Heredia
Known as the province of flowers, Heredia has long been a favourite destination for those coming to Costa Rica. In Heredia, you get the best of all worlds: wonderful nightlife, a safe environment, a true cultural experience and tons of places to explore such as the Poas Volcano, the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, Barva Volcano, Café Britt tour, Inbio Park and many cultural festivals just to name a few. Compared to staying in the capital San Jose, Heredia is a much better option due to the concern over safety in San Jose.

What we like best about the layout of Costa Rica is that everything is just a short distance away from the Central Valley.

Below is a short list of popular destinations and how long it would take you to get there by bus:

Jaco Beach: 2 hours
Manuel Antonio National Park: 3 hours
Arenal Volcano: 3 hours
Monteverde National Park: 3.5 hours
Puerto Viejo: 4 hours
Tamarindo: 4.5 hours
