RECEIVING JOB SEARCH GUIDANCE & INTERVIEWING FOR POSITIONS

As an ITA student, you may begin receiving Job Search Guidance even prior to the beginning of their class, presuming that your tuition is paid & that your Registration FormTerms & Conditions have been signed.

  • Work with an experienced Student Affairs Advisor
  • If taking an international in-person course, the local staff will assist with gaining employment in the local job market.
  • Tools: Job Search Guidance Manual, ITA Job Search Webinars, School Directories, Job Boards, Recruiters;
  • Tasks: Write cover letter & resume, get documents (passport, criminal background check, academic records – if necessary), network with ITA students and alumni through exclusive social media channels;
  • Contact schools, apply for jobs, interview with schools;
  • In most cases, those looking to teach in Europe & Latin America will go to their country of choice and interview in-person during a major hiring season;
  • For countries in Asia, the Persian Gulf and some countries in Latin American & Europe (examples:  Russia, Turkey, Chile), you will interview from home by Skype & Phone.

How Do I Actually Get a Job Teaching English Abroad?

There are numerous ways to find jobs abroad, and as part of your International TEFL Academy job search guidance you will be shown how to use each one.

  • Job Boards – There are hundreds of ESL online job boards listing tens of thousands of teaching opportunities around the world. As a student and graduate of International TEFL Academy, you will be provided with a comprehensive list of these websites.

  • Networking and Word of Mouth – Contacting other English teachers can be a great way to learn about schools and job opportunities, particularly if you are already on the ground in the city or region where you want to teach. Hiring Seasons for Teaching English Abroad

Many countries have specific hiring seasons in which they seek to fill vacant teaching positions. While openings for jobs may become available at any time of year, following these hiring cycles and interviewing in advance for a position is critical to your success for finding a great job abroad.
