Activities during the 4-week TEFL Course in Costa Rica

Written by International TEFL Academy Costa Rica

Although the coursework will keep you pretty busy during the course, we schedule a number of optional activities to help you see Costa Rica and learn about the culture.

1 - Poas Volcano  & La Paz Waterfall Gardens Tour

The weekend before your TESOL course starts, we offer an optional tour to see some of Costa Rica's most popular tourist stops. On our way to Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall Gardens, we will make stops in Alajuela to see some famous monuments and learn some Costa Rican history and in Doka coffee plantation to learn about the process and eat a delicious breakfast. You will receive information about signing up for this tour as your scheduled course gets closer.

2 - Dance Lessons

During the first week of the course, our dance instructor gives our TESOL students a brief introduction to salsa and merengue, two latin favorites.  This optional activity is free!

3 - Cooking Classes

During the course, you will receive multiple opportunities to participate in cooking classes with our instructor Doña Zaida. She will give you recipes and show you step-by-step how to prepare traditional dishes from Costa Rica. Of course you get to eat everything too!

4 - Optional Weekend Trips

To make sure you get a chance to see this beautiful country, the TESOL school will be giving you Friday free of the first weekend of the course. Take advantage of the three-day weekend to see a stunning beach and the most-visited national park on the Pacific coast. Manuel Antonio National Park is famous for the interactive experience visitors get with the local flora and fauna.  Or if you'd rather, visit one of our favorite towns on the Caribbean coast:  Puerto Viejo!  You will get more information about these trips as your course approaches.

5 - Futbol 5

Every week, a group of English teachers, TESOL alumni and some locals play indoor soccer a couple of blocks from the school in Barva.  Everyone collaborates to pay for renting the field, which usually amounts to $2 a person. Meet a bunch of our people while getting some exercise and releasing stress!

6 - Spanish Classes

Study with a native Spanish-speaking teacher and watch how quickly you learn. Some of our TESOL students choose to come a week early to study before the course starts. Others take classes in the early mornings during the TESOL month, while others choose to stay a week or two after the course to study Spanish. Check out the different levels we offer and talk to us today about scheduling your class.

Don't forget your priority for the four weeks is the TESOL curriculum, but we invite you to partake in as many of these activities as you can, especially if you are only in Costa Rica for the month. Register TODAY for your TEFL course, so you don't miss these great activities!
