Things to do in Guanacaste: Gracia at Mar Vista

Written by International TEFL Academy Costa Rica

Nestled in the hills between Brasilito and  Playa Flamingo, you don’t want to miss this affordable treat!  Gracia offers a restaurant, bar and infinity pool with an amazing view of the coast.  Gracia is a great idea for an afternoon off, and it is about 14 kilometers from our campus in Playa Grande, which is about a 25-minute drive.

You don’t need to be staying at Mar Vista nor be a member to access Gracia.  You will be required to pay 5000 colones (less than 10USD) to get in, which then goes towards your tab. Please note, if it is a busy tourist season, they may charge 8000 colones, but this can still  be used to cover your food and drinks.

The food and beverage prices are quite reasonable, considering the environment. Sandwiches on the lunch menu and a typical meal (casado=rice, beans, salad and a protein) both cost around 6000 colones. Costa Rican beers are around 1600 colones, and cocktails around about 4500 colones.  You can check out part of their menu on their website

Gracia is closed on Mondays but is open from 12-8pm Tuesday through Sunday.  Their lunch menu is served until 4pm, and the kitchen is closed from 4-5pm to switch over to the dinner menu.  If you plan to eat dinner, making a reservation is recommended.  You must have dry clothes or a cover up to enter the restaurant, so don’t forget to pack for that!  The bar, including the swim-up bar, is open all day.

The pool has strict rules, which we loved, because it was quiet and relaxing.  Toys, floating pool toys and diving are not allowed, and screaming and yelling are discouraged.  The pool closes at sunset, so plan accordingly.  Whether you decide to stay all afternoon or just for a couple of hours, we suggest enjoying the sunset.  It’s beautiful!  Keep your eyes open for all of the tropical birds flying overhead too!

Enjoy your time!  We can’t wait to see your pictures!
